It’s been a while since I’ve worked on any sort of comic book stuff (maybe a year or so). I had an idea that popped in my head a few days ago and I figured it was the perfect time to get back to it. This project is going to be a mini comic (4.5″x5.5″) with a couple different stories based around playing music.

As far as technique goes, I’m trying a couple new things with this project. One of which is new software. In the past I have done most of my work in Adobe Illustrator. It’s worked just fine for me, but I have recently been experimenting with Manga Studio and the awesome brushes that Ray Frenden has come up with. So far I think the tools in MS are much more similar to traditional analog tools than Illustrator, making it a little quicker and easier to get the results that I want. This will also be the first comic project that I’ve done since I have started using the Yiynova MSP19U tablet(I’ve been using it for the past year or so on other work with great results). The tablet is basically an inexpensive alternative to the Wacom Cintiq. I’ve got a couple screen shots of what I’m working on below and I’ll post more progress as it happens…
